Forging Collaborations to Establish Health-Promoting Schools

In 2007, HHD participated in the “First regional conference on health-promoting schools in the Eastern Mediterranean Region,” held in Damascus, Syrian Republic. The conference, an opportunity to forge collaborative relationships, was sponsored by the World Health Organization’s Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office, together with UNESCO and the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. HHD presented evidence of effective strategies to promote health through schools and featured several case studies from countries in the Middle East, describing their strategies to implement schoolwide approaches.
