Involving People Living with HIV and AIDS
HIV and AIDS carry a burden of stigma and discrimination that can prevent people from seeking help or learning how to better protect their health. HHD is working with EduCan members and local organizations of People Living with HIV and AIDS (PLWHA) to combat these obstacles and deliver more effective HIV and AIDS programs and services in the education sector.
The aim is to increase the involvement of people living with HIV and AIDS through deep and meaningful partnerships with the education sector as part of a comprehensive approach. This approach includes policy development, classroom teaching, community advocacy, access to services, and overcoming stigma and discrimination. A manual to guide both the education sector and PLWHA to carry out all aspects of collaboration and activities will be ready in the spring of 2009.
