EduCan: Connecting Education Ministry Representatives Across the Region
Formed in 2006, EduCan (Caribbean Education Sector HIV and AIDS Coordinator Network) advocates for a comprehensive response to HIV and AIDS that emphasizes prevention education, voluntary counseling and testing, and support for persons living with or affected by HIV and AIDS. Composed predominantly of the education sector’s HIV or HFLE Coordinators from different Caribbean countries, EduCan provides a platform for communication among members and other stakeholders.
It is a collaborative effort among HHD, CARICOM, and the UNESCO Kingston Cluster Office for the Caribbean; and HHD serves as the Secretariat for EduCan. Ministers of education in the region have shown their support for EduCan and their commitment to counter stigma and strengthen schools’ prevention programs through the Roseau Declaration in Dominica and the Port of Spain Declaration in Trinidad and Tobago.
