Partnering with Teachers Unions to Prevent HIV
HHD has collaborated with Education International, the global federation of teachers unions, and the World Health Organization to fight HIV and AIDS and provide education for all children in this region. We work with teacher-union affiliates throughout sub-Saharan Africa to prevent new HIV infections, increase the number of learners completing basic education, and mitigate the impact of HIV and AIDS on achieving Education For All goals.
This work involves a range of activities including training, policy development, advocacy, research, publicity, and evaluation. More than 130,000 teachers in 22,000 schools in 15 southern African countries and in Guyana and Haiti have received training to use a skills-based HIV and AIDS prevention training and resource manual.
