Interactive Web-based Courses
HHD has created more than 50 Web-based courses over the past decade. These courses are designed to provide information, build skills, and encourage the development of a community of practice among constituents.
Key learning principles come to life through the use of animation, audio, and video; discussions among peers and subject experts; and interactive questions and activities. Most courses incorporate a variety of modalities, such as facilitated asynchronous discussion, virtual presentations, and “real-time chats,” to support course content and meet a range of participant learning needs.
HHD operates the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention’s Northeast Center for the Application of Prevention Technologies, and its robust distance learning program delivers 20 moderated courses per year to more than 900 state- and local-level substance abuse prevention professionals. These facilitated online courses, lasting one to two weeks, allow practitioners to explore current research, obtain practical tools, participate in structured learning activities and share their knowledge, experiences, and perspectives with one another.
