Accessible Virtual Conferences

Teleconferences, videoconferences, and web-based meetings are valuable ways to foster support and collaborative learning when distance poses a barrier. Many HHD projects host teleconferences and webinars to groups of constituents using virtual meeting tools such as WebEx, GoToMeeting, and Elluminate. These tools feature real-time audio, application sharing (e.g., shared PowerPoint presentations), text messages, and whiteboards.

The Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC), operated by HHD, offers a web-based discussion series to encourage dialogue on suicide and suicide prevention among practitioners, researchers, and others working in the field. Each invitational teleconference is 60–90 minutes in length, moderated by an SPRC staff member. Archived recordings of the series, stored on the SPRC’s website, can be accessed “on demand.”
