Web-Based Courses for Substance Abuse Prevention Practitioners
HHD’s online courses in substance abuse prevention meet the growing demand for workforce professional development, enabling people to gain the knowledge, skills, and support to put evidence-based substance abuse prevention programs, practices, and policies in place in their states and communities. These courses offer practitioners the opportunity to explore current research at their convenience; use practical tools for assessment, planning, and evaluation; participate in structured learning activities; share knowledge, experiences, and perspectives with one another; and immediately apply what they learn.
Multiple pedagogical approaches, including video case studies and online discussion, appeal to a variety of adult learning styles and facilitate comfort with technology. Effective Strategies is one example of a moderated, Web-based course developed by HHD. Participants in this two-week workshop have the opportunity to:
- Find out why federal and state agencies encourage the use of evidence-based prevention
- Explore key strategies that represent an “environmental approach” to prevention
- Examine the evidence-based principles that underlie these key strategies.
- Explore ways to apply these approaches in a variety of settings
