Capacity Building
Capacity building is the process of developing and strengthening knowledge, skills, and resources—at both the individual and at the organizational level—so that policymakers and practitioners can more effectively adapt and respond to the changes and challenges they face.
HHD works with leaders and organizations across sectors to build their capacity to find and use the best evidence-based practices that promote healthy individuals, families, and communities. We customize these capacity-building services to address the needs and circumstances of the diverse cultures and people that we serve.
Our support can include:
- Advocacy
We inform political decision-making and build networks between organizations to improve the social, economic, and cultural conditions that threaten health and well-being. - Assessment and Strategic Planning
We conduct asset and needs assessments to identify the current realities of organizations and the clients they serve. We facilitate a strategic planning process that encourages organizations to define future direction and reallocate resources. - Policy Development
We work locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally within various sectors to improve the development, implementation, and enforcement of policies that will help improve the health of their constituents. - Training and Technical Assistance
We provide a broad range of customized support, grounded in research, that can include targeted professional development, one-on-one guidance, and tailored resources based on the needs of professionals and organizations. - Organizational Development
We work with state and local health, mental health, education, juvenile justice, and law enforcement agencies to help them better collaborate, plan strategically, and create systems change to sustain their efforts. - Tools
We develop creative, interactive resources—including training materials; online courses; curricula; and assessment, planning and evaluation tools—to build competency and stimulate learning. - Monitoring and Evaluation
Working independently or in collaboration with other experienced research firms, our monitoring and evaluation services use qualitative and quantitative methods to determine the outcomes of interventions and the ways in which organizational capacities have been created or strengthened.
