HHD's Topics

Improving Child and Adolescent Safety

With funding from the U.S. Maternal and Child Health Bureau, HHD operates the Children’s Safety Network (CSN). CSN assists state and local health departments, especially maternal and child health programs, to address both intentional injuries to youth (due to violence or suicide attempts) and unintentional injuries (such as injuries from motor vehicle crashes or residential fires).

To prevent intentional injuries from suicide and violence, CSN works with state and local health departments and other agencies to implement effective school- and community-based bullying prevention strategies, address intimate partner violence through teen parenting programs, and integrate child abuse prevention into home visits.
