Curricula: Healthy Sexuality for Adolescents

To improve their sexual and reproductive health, adolescents need to learn about healthy sexual relationships, safe sex, and reproduction. HHD, with support from the Centers for Disease Control, designed Teenage Health Teaching Modules (THTM), a nationally used classroom curriculum for grades 6–12. It increases youth’s knowledge of reproduction and other health issues, and improves their health-promoting attitudes and behaviors.

A similar curriculum has been developed specifically for youth in the Caribbean, through CARICOM’s Health and Family Life Education (HFLE) project.

Reach and Impact

Our Teenage Health Teaching Modules curriculum, currently used in 49 U.S. states and in five other countries, can significantly influence adolescent health. An independent evaluation found that the curriculum produced positive effects on students' health knowledge, attitudes, and self-reported behaviors.
