Preventing and Reducing Injuries to Children and Adolescents
On behalf of the Maternal and Child Health Bureau, HHD operates the Children’s Safety Network (CSN) to assist state and local health departments as they implement injury and violence prevention programs, especially to benefit youth. Through training, individualized consultation, and materials to health department staff, they gain the knowledge and skills to understand and use their injury data to design, deliver, and evaluate targeted strategies.
As a result of data analysis, states and communities have implemented strategies such as car seat distribution to low-income families, playground safety programs in urban neighborhoods, hazard identification in child-care settings, and advocacy for laws to improve teen driving safety.
