Warning Signs in the Emergency Department

1 in 10 patients in an emergency department is harboring thoughts of suicide—a new checklist for ER personnel can help them recognize the warning signs.

Life and death emergencies are typical in a hospital emergency room.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA), a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, funded the creation of the poster as well as part of the evaluation, with supplementary funding coming from the University of Rochester. Keep It Up

Keep It Up is a new intervention to reduce HIV/AIDS and other chronic illnesses in young, urban African American men. A recent pilot study yielded positive results.

Today, New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Washington, DC, and Detroit are the epicenters of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the U.S.

Successful STD Prevention Video

A video shown in clinic waiting rooms resulted in a reduction of STDs among patients who viewed it.

With 19 million new infections occurring each year, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) continue to be a major public health concern in the United States.

This project was a collaboration between EDC, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Denver Public Health, Long California State University at Long Beach, the Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services, and the San Francisco Department of Public Health. Saving Sex for Later en Español

To promote reproductive health and reduce adolescent pregnancies among Latino youth, a successful HHD parenting education program, Saving Sex for Later, is now tailored to Spanish-speaking families

Pregnancy rates among teens in the United States have declined over the past decade. Yet they continue to remain higher among Latinas than any other ethnic group.

This project is a collaboration with Clínicas de Salud del Pueblo, Inc., Breaking the Cycle, and Mile End Films. It is funded by the Annie E Casey Foundation. For more information contact Alexi San Doval at asandoval@edc.org.
