Higher Education Center Launches New Web Site

The U.S. Department of Education’s Higher Education Center, operated by HHD, helps campuses and communities address problems of alcohol, other drugs, and violence by identifying effective strategies and programs based upon the best prevention science.

Higher Education Center Launches New Web Site

With the start of another school year, the U.S. Department of Education’s Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse and Violence Prevention, operated by HHD, has revamped its web site. With a fresh look and feel, easy-to-use navigation and brand new content, colleges and universities across the nation have access to resources that address issues of alcohol, other drugs, and violence.

Enhanced Navigation
The new layout helps visitors find exactly what they’re looking for. Users can easily search the site through four main categories: “Our Services”, “High-Risk Behaviors”, “Prevention Basics”, and “Environmental Management”. Also, publications by the Higher Education Center are just a click away—next to every article on the site, a list of related publications appears. Or visitors can browse the full publications list by topic.

New Content
The site features several new areas: “High-Risk Behaviors” has a section dedicated to addressing alcohol abuse on college campuses; “Prevention Basics” provides new information on strategic planning and building partnerships and coalitions; and “Environmental Management” describes a comprehensive, research-based approach to alcohol, other drug, and violence prevention developed by the Higher Education Center.

Interactive Tools
The site’s new design is vibrant and interactive. It allows visitors to search examples of effective model programs in an easy-to-read format. They can look for programs by campus characteristics, a specific prevention approach, or target audience to find out how other campuses have addressed problems with substance use.

The user-friendly navigation, added content, and new format allow visitors to effortlessly find information on how to promote healthy lifestyles among students at colleges and universities.

The Higher Education Center at HHD is funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools. For more information go to www.higheredcenter.org.
